Local Commercial Real Estate Firm Buys out its Partners, Launches New Brand

Quad Cities, IA/IL, October 1, 2018 – A Quad Cities area commercial real estate firm has a new name. The company formerly known as Lockard/The Hawkeye Group is now operating as Hawkeye Commercial Real Estate, said David Gellerman and business partner, Jim Tansey, CCIM. The move comes as the company expands its brokerage footprint and property management services in the Quad Cities, Iowa City and Coralville markets.

The new moniker reflects the legacy of the family business started by David’s grandfather, Herb Gellerman.  In 1947, Herb and a partner became pioneers in the wholesale distribution business with the formation of Jaydon, Inc. He later diversified his portfolio into real estate and formed Hawkeye Real Estate Investment Company.

The new name is part of a re-branding strategy to “refine and restate the company’s unique position in the two markets,” said Jim Tansey. “It was the right time for us to align our Commercial Real Estate Brokerage and Property Management teams. “For us, finding a real estate solution for our clients is only the beginning.”

“We’re a locally owned business whose approach is based on partnerships, not transactions.” added Gellerman. “Building on a full suite of commercial real estate services, including brokerage, property management and real estate consulting offers our clients a one-stop approach to realize their real estate goals.”

The firm began its commercial real estate brokerage business in 2013 when brokerage veterans Gellerman and Tansey partnered with Lockard and another local investor to launch the Quad Cities office. Since that time, Gellerman and Tansey have bought out their partners, grown their client base, expanded commercial property management services and added several real estate professionals to their team. “This is an exciting change for us and marks a strategic pivot in the future direction as a full-service commercial real estate business,” said Gellerman. “Combining our real estate services under one umbrella positions our company for growth and increases our offerings to better serve our clients and community.”
